CHANGING PERSPECTIVES

CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY FROM RESIDENCIES – FROM ACCRA TO NEW YORK
Hostile architecture in London, Kremlin leader Putin and former Foreign Minister Kneissl with animal heads, life-sized shrink-wrapped Jesus figures in a Mexican market, and a New York high-rise block as a vision of social utopia – the exhibition Changing Perspectives challenges established ways of seeing.
On display are photographic works by 16 artists who participated in international residency programs funded by the Austrian Ministry of Culture between 2019 and 2024. These residencies took place in Accra, Banff, London, Mexico City, New York, Paris, Seoul, and Tel Aviv.
Inspired by personal encounters and immersive experiences in diverse art scenes and communities, the featured series explore current global phenomena such as the rise of far-right politics, reflect on questions of identity and the nature of the photographic medium, and investigate urban space as both a social arena and a contested territory.
The exhibition was developed in cooperation with the Austrian Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport (BMKÖS) and presents works by Peter Garmusch, Jojo Gronostay, Katharina Gruzei, Yasmina Haddad, Anaïs Horn, Anna Jermolaewa, Hannahlisa Kunyik, Naa Teki Lebar, Anja Manfredi, Bernd Oppl, Zara Pfeifer, Erwin Polanc, Lisa Rastl, Claudia Rohrauer, Samira Saidi, and Christina Werner.
